UNCoN Status

The United Nations Convention on Naivety (UNCoN) was agreed on October 11, 1974 in Bologna, Italy, after a preparatory conference attended by delegates from 132 Member States.  The Convention defines basic international guidelines regarding the right of individuals to naivety, credulity and gullibility, and as such, was widely seen as non-controversial.

As the following list shows, many Member States were quick to sign and ratify the Convention, and most did so without specifying reservations.  The Convention entered into force upon its 80th ratification.

NOTE: This list remains a work in progress, while our staff assemble information on the signature and ratification or accession dates of Member States for which no dates are listed.  Thank you for your patience.
